eCatch Electronic Reporting System
Transforming paper-based processes into an efficient digital ecosystem
Victoria’s commercial fishers and aquaculture businesses work hard to supply domestic and international markets with an extensive variety of the world’s finest fisheries products including abalone, rock lobster, King George whiting and snapper.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority works to ensure Victoria’s fisheries and aquaculture businesses are viable, profitable and sustainable for future generations.
The Challenge
To support this mission, the organisation required a solution that would replace existing manual processes, and streamline the reporting process. In particular, the solution needed to introduce electronic log books, reporting and data capture for selected commercial fisheries.
Our Solution
The former Lapis team, now operating within Veris, developed a comprehensive electronic reporting system known as ‘eCatch’ available to fishers as a smartphone and tablet app. Chiefly, the system provides an end-to-end service for catch reporting, including the creation and distribution of Catch Disposal Records.

Outcomes
As a result, the app has transformed commercial fisheries catch and effort reporting from a monthly paper-based data collection process to a fully automated, modern mobile application that delivers information immediately. This system now provides end-to-end reporting with offline capability, streamlining the recording of catch and effort and commercial fish landed and improving compliance reporting.
