Choose your own adventure at Veris

The opportunity to combine work and travel ticked all the right boxes for Xavier Allen, a Surveyor in our Victorian property team.

Leaving behind the cooler Melbourne weather for a year, Xavier jumped at the chance to expand his horizons working on a variety of Veris projects up and down the east coast of Australia.

Kicking off his adventure in the idyllic Whitsundays in tropical north Queensland, Xavier worked on some significant infrastructure projects in the region.

An added perk was the onsite accommodation for the project work – an apartment overlooking one of Australia’s best beaches at Horseshoe Bay near Bowen.

The next part of Xavier’s journey saw him working in Northern NSW on the Inland Rail Project.

Working on various sections of the project, Xavier performed a variety of surveying tasks and gained invaluable experience along the way. “At the time it was challenging, but looking back, I learnt some great lessons, met some great Veris surveyors and had a ball,” reflected Xavier.

Property and telecommunications surveys were the next focus for Xavier as he travelled across South East Queensland and Northern NSW, working for a variety of clients.

During this time, Xavier was based in the heart of the Gold Coast at Broadbeach. He maximised his spare time learning to surf and jetting off on adventures down to Bryon Bay.

“The one-hour drive down to Byron Bay was always a weekend highlight,” Xavier added.

Now back in Melbourne after a year of experiencing a bunch of new places, combining work and play, Xavier is looking forward to what the future holds at Veris.

“Always having opportunities to work on the best jobs across states, and the opportunity to work with some of the best individuals is really exciting.”
