Hanna Street Sewer Upgrade – Stage 2
As part of the BFHI Joint Venture, Veris delivered Underground Insights, survey, utility locating and advanced reality capture services for the Hanna Street Sewer Upgrade Stage 2 in South Melbourne, helping de-risk the installation of critical sewer infrastructure in a complex and highly constrained, active urban environment.
Our Solution
- Delivered a comprehensive Underground Insights program, including utility locating, 3D GPR, geophysical surveys and nondestructive digging to accurately identify and verify underground assets.
- Combined survey and potholing of utilities and CCTV dilapidation survey of gravity mains.
- Terrestrial laser scanning and topographic surveying to provide a complete understanding of above-and below-ground conditions.
- Created detailed LOD100 mass models of the buildings, utility models and a federated 12d dataset, giving the design and construction teams reliable spatial intelligence to support planning and decision-making.
- Coordinated multiple work fronts, subcontractors and stakeholders across an active transport and public environment, maintaining safety, quality and program efficiency throughout delivery.
Outcomes
- Completed more than 3,500 hours of fieldwork across an eight-month engagement, including investigations of 100+ pits and manholes, extensive utility verification and over 300 metres of slot trenching reinstated to Council specifications.
- Achieved zero safety incidents while working in a live urban environment alongside pedestrians, traffic, public transport operators and multiple contractors.
- Reduced design and construction risk through the integration of 3D GPR and TLS, enabling early identification of underground anomalies and improving confidence in project planning.
- Delivered the scope on time and on budget, supporting seamless program progression through proactive coordination, staged investigations and efficient data delivery.
- Equipped the client and project team with accurate underground intelligence and federated digital models, supporting safer excavation, more informed decision-making and greater certainty during construction.
