3D monitoring project wins award

At the recent Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA) for South Australia, Veris and the District Council of Robe won the award for Community Impact for a project that involved 3D Monitoring of the Robe Coastline.

The District Council of Robe is strengthening its evidence-based approach to decision making to manage its popular coastline and provide a sustainable future for the local community.

As part of its approach, the Council worked closely with Veris to perform LiDAR mapping of 48 hectares of coastline.

A combination of aerial and mobile mapping technologies were deployed to provide an accurate spatial model of the coastline that will provide a foundational dataset to monitor changes along the coastline as a result of erosion and sea level rise, and better manage the risks associated with both public and private assets.

James Holyman, CEO, District Council of Robe said, “The works performed will allow us to manage both the public and private risk, with those benefits flowing into the community."

The project also showcased how the latest technologies in UAV, autonomous and mobile LiDAR mapping can be combined to safely and remotely map the natural environment for the benefit of the community in even the most inaccessible and extreme cases.
