ConSol Mobile Application

Centralised system helps manage a distributed workforce of 15000+

Field workers and sub-contractors receive a number of work orders on any given day, with requests changing rapidly. With detailed reporting requirements, a number of documents that need to be accessed on-site, and work that can be out of range, a robust, offline-capable application is crucial to fast, efficient operations.

ConSol is a cloud-based management tool developed by Yarris in conjunction with Telstra. The platform links telco construction enterprises with contractors nationwide, enabling telcos to efficiently manage their field services for network maintenance and construction.

Yarris identified a need to broaden the platform’s accessibility to more field workers with a re-development of the existing iOS-only ConSol mobile application to enable use across both iOS and Android systems.

The Challenge

Increasing platform accessibility

With over 15,000 active users and three million orders processed through the ConSol platform, Yarris identified a need to broaden the platform’s accessibility to more field workers with a re-development of the existing iOS-only ConSol mobile application to enable use across both iOS and Android systems.

The application needed to accommodate advanced functionality such as GPS camera with maximum efficiency. Yarris sought the advanced hybrid technology expertise of the former Lapis team, now operating within Veris, to develop an efficient, cost-effective solution with complex reporting and compliance-related capabilities.

Our Solution

Quality components with fast delivery

Our team assisted in the development of a responsive, high performing mobile application harnessing state-of-the-art hybrid technology IONIC.

As the only IONIC trusted partner in Australia, our team utilised their expertise in the IONIC open-source HTML5 development framework to build the ConSol application in one codebase, transferrable across operating systems. This enabled the application to be delivered quicker and at a significantly lower cost compared with two app builds in native code for iOS and Android separately. Removing duplication efforts providing significant cost savings and flexibility for future updates and developments with minimal investment and greater velocity from build to release.

Key features of the application include:

  • New job notification alerts
  • Photo capture and upload with embedded date/time metadata
  • Both in-app and ConSol-managed subscription creation
  • Map-view job display with status descriptors
  • Features to support comprehensive workflow from job acceptance through to completion
  • Full offline capability with automatic uploads once online

Through a co-design approach, our team also worked with Yarris’ in-house development team to provide further training, support and technical expertise.

Outcomes

A flexible, functional solution

The ConSol solution helped Yarris assist more customers in managing complex workflows and digitising their processes, with substantial benefits including:

  • Development cost savings with our team's extensive experience with and adoption of hybrid technology
  • Greater accessibility of the app enables the user base to grow significantly with Android operating system compatibility
  • Rapid release to market with time to deliver significantly reduced as a result of hybrid technology adoption
  • Advanced features allow workers to deliver real-time updates to clients and complete reporting activities in the palm of their hand.
