Eagle Point Foreshore Masterplan
East Gippsland Shire Council sought a long-term vision for the Eagle Point Foreshore, a prominent waterfront destination on the Gippsland Lakes. The foreshore adjoins the Eagle Point Caravan Park and forms an important recreational asset for residents and visitors, supporting boating, swimming, water-based recreation and community gathering. The Eagle Point Structure Plan identified the foreshore as a key opportunity to strengthen the town centre and create a more active, connected and welcoming public waterfront.
The Challenge
The Eagle Point Structure Plan identified the foreshore as a key opportunity to become the heart of the township, strengthening its role as a destination for residents and visitors alike. At the same time, the waterfront precinct accommodated a diverse mix of activities including boating, swimming, passive recreation, events and caravan park operations, creating competing demands for space and infrastructure. Seasonal tourism placed additional pressure on the foreshore, requiring a solution that could support increased activity while respecting the site's natural setting and environmental significance.
The Solution
Our team developed a comprehensive foreshore masterplan that established a coordinated framework for recreation, tourism, community activation and environmental management. By exploring alternative design options, the masterplan identified opportunities to improve connectivity, strengthen the arrival experience, and create a more active and accessible waterfront.
The proposed vision included upgraded visitor and community facilities, new event and gathering spaces, age-responsive play areas, improved pedestrian connections, reconfigured parking and access arrangements, and enhanced opportunities for water-based recreation. The masterplan also identified ways to improve activation of the foreshore while maintaining strong connections to the surrounding landscape and water frontage.
Outcomes
The Eagle Point Foreshore Masterplan provided East Gippsland Shire Council with a long-term vision for future investment and staged delivery across the precinct. By establishing clear activity zones, improving circulation and identifying priority public realm improvements, the masterplan created a framework to guide future decision-making and support the foreshore's ongoing role as a key community and visitor destination. The project demonstrates Veris' ability to integrate strategic planning, placemaking and landscape architecture to unlock the social, recreational and economic value of public waterfront spaces
