Smithfield Bypass Project

The $164 million Smithfield Bypass Project involved the construction of a new bypass road to improve traffic conditions. The bypass meets current and future strategic transport needs of the area - providing a safer, more efficient travel route for motorists and industry.

The Challenge

Our client required surveying services for a complex range of works packages, including multiple new bridges with vertical and horizontal geometry, a new multi-lane intersection, road widenings, bike lanes, entry and exit ramps, and multiple culvert structures including large concrete box culverts.

Our Solution

We provided a range engineering surveys and some minor associated cadastral surveying for the construction phase of the project including:

  • Total Station and GPS Set-out Surveys
  • Line Marking Set-out Surveys (using Tiny Surveyor robot)
  • Survey Control Network Establishment
  • Monitoring Surveys
  • As-constructed Surveys
  • Pavement Conformance Surveys
  • Batter Slope Conformance Surveys
  • Cadastral Surveys.

Outcomes

Working closely with our client, we were able to adapt to the changing needs of the project, which included supporting designing/redesigning minor components (shared user paths, bio-retention basins, etc) of the project to TMR specification, to ensure works were completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
