Sydenham Metro Upgrade

The Sydenham Metro upgrade (SMu) project forms part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project and includes upgrades to Sydenham Station, the surrounding network and other ancillary infrastructure to accommodate Sydney Metro trains. Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project.

The challenge

The construction stage of the project incorporated an array of design features that needed to be set-out to the approved design. This included new station entrances, a new concourse over the station, and improved interchanges for passengers. In addition, given the significant scale of the construction activity on site, there was a need to adapt to field requests and design changes to ensure successful delivery of the project.

Our solution

We were able to offer a complete surveying solution to the John Holland / Laing O’Rourke joint venture, supporting with all aspects of the construction project. The capability of our team to deliver sound Data Management practices, managing field requests, updating and preparing data for set-out to the latest approved design, was essential to meet the needs of the client. We also recommended and installed an automated monitoring solution to measure for any track movement during under-bore tunnelling.

Benefits

Our approach to Data Management on the project ensured the information could be accessible to the right people at the right time, and was crucial to ensure construction teams were able to work side by side with all QA captured for future reference. The capacity of our team to work around the clock weekdays and flex for weekends / night works, also ensured a high level of delivery with minimal re-works and extra costs.
